Those who triumph, plan a great number of factors before a challenge.

Those who are defeated, plan a small number of factors before a challenge.

Much planning, triumph!

Little planning, defeat!

What are the results of no planning at all.

Observing only this I can foresee triumph or defeat

-Sun Tzu

I selected "Foretelling Triumph" from Sun Tzu's writings because of its strong emphasis on planning. As a Web Application Designer and Programming Consultant I've been called midway into projects that although artistically pleasing simply didn't have the framework needed to get the job done. Many of these projects were maintenance nightmares that eventually needed to be completely re-engineered. These were projects that if the original designers had understood some of the more advanced web programming concepts and techniques, would have saved their clients both time and money. Planning is the single most important element for any large to medium scale web project especially if that project has the added complexities that are involved in most E-commerce, Business-to-Business, and Corporate Intranets. Planning is an essential expense that in the end can only save you money. As Sun Tzu says, "Observing only this I can foresee triumph or defeat".
