Professional Experience:

San Diego State University Research Foundation, San Diego, CA (2005-Present)

Currently working on a contract with the California Department of Health developing an online tracking system for several state and federally funded programs that provide free breast and cervical cancer screening through out the State of California. The program is in collaboration with the State of California, Department of Health Services, Cancer Detection Section (CDS) and San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health. The application acts as a centralized depository that integrates the efforts of regional offices who provide quality assurance within their area and those of several government entities. I am in charge of the overall database design and the programming. Although this is a fulltime position I still do consulting on a part-time bases.

Warner/Chappell Music Inc., Los Angeles, CA (2000-2004)

A subsidiary of Time/Warner servicing the music needs of the music, motion picture and television industries. During this period we were constantly pushing web technology and delivering highly sophisticated web services for our clients.

Part of a team that took over a limited and unfinished third-party web site and transformed it into a scaleable framework integrating the online business activities of offices from around the world.
Redesigned a flat-one-dimensional web based project management system into a sophisticated, interactive and state-of-the-art web service helping to make our clients in the music, motion picture and television industries more productive.
Designed and integrated a multimedia sub-system allowing clients to view video, listen to audio, and collaborate more effectively with their colleagues by conceiving and executing a unique combination of technologies.
Designed an audio sub-system that dynamically generated a list of songs and then played the list over the World Wide Web. This solution replaced a more cumbersome SMIL file implementation with a design that could create a list on the fly, was easier to maintain and then deploy. The same list could be emailed to a colleague for playing and collaboration.

Workhorse Productions, San Diego, CA (1997-2000)

Self-employed designing customized shopping carts, online inventory systems, and web sites using database driven content. For one-man jobs I did the database design, programming, and artwork. For much larger projects I was the project manager, putting together a team of freelance artists, writers, programmers, and data entry personnel. I operated Workhorse Productions as a sole proprietorship until 2000 when I was hired by the IT Department for Warner/Chappell Music.

Re-engineered an E-commerce web site successfully trimming down 300 Active Server Pages to 24 pages decreasing overall maintenance cost and providing more integrated automation.
Designed a cost saving image-processing sub-system, which automated the re-sizing of each product image into several sizes, then integrating the finished results into the rest of the site.
Designed and managed an E-commerce project for a multi-supplier retailer, making purchasing and fulfillment seamless; reducing cost and man hours needed to maintain the site.

Other professional experience includes a background in cinematography where I was a motion picture cameraman in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972. While in the Army I was cross-trained as a photographer and darkroom technician. After the Army I became involved in video production and postproduction with experience in both digital and analog.

Data Key Design is a business that I operate from my home in San Diego, California. I specialize in resolving web related issues that are difficult to implement using off-the-self software. These are projects needing a jump-start or must be re-engineered salvaging as much of the clients original investment as possible. Contact me for a free one hour consultation.
